Where to use this sign

A fire extinguisher sign shows where portable firefighting equipment is kept. Extinguishers are placed in offices, kitchens, workshops, warehouses, car parks, shops and plant rooms, and a sign makes them easy to find when smoke or panic makes a plain wall bracket hard to spot. It also tells visitors and new staff where to go before an emergency happens.

Place the sign directly above the extinguisher, at about 1.5 to 2 metres from the floor, so it can be seen from along the corridor. In large open areas mount it on a column or wall and make sure the extinguisher stays below it. Keep the area in front of the extinguisher clear, and if you move the extinguisher, move the sign with it. A kitchen or electrical room may need a different extinguisher type, so check the type as well as the sign.

Print A4 for corridors, offices and shops, and A3 for warehouses, parking areas and factory floors. Paper is suitable for short-term use; aluminium, acrylic or photoluminescent signs last longer in permanent installations. Requirements for the number, type and location of extinguishers depend on your building and activity, so confirm them with your civil defence authority or fire consultant.

Check the exact signage requirements for your building type with the relevant UAE authority or your fire and safety consultant.
